Lincoln Park Zoo

We've gone to the Lincoln Park Zoo a lot this winter. Most of the animals are exhibited indoors, and in the winter there are no crowds. And it's close. And it's free.

The gorillas are the stars of that Chicago classic "Return to Me" (the one where the guy's wife's heart gets transplanted into another woman whom he accidentally falls in love with--it sounds like sci-fi but it's not. It has gorillas).

Charlie's favorite exhibit is the farm exhibit (he's really into farms, thanks to the wonderful folks at Baby Einstein).

Charlie spend a lot of time in this tractor. So far he hasn't had a lot of competition for it.
Because a lot of the exhibits are indoors, they get a little smelly in the winter time. But the nice thing is that the animals like to stay close to the front of the habitat where it's warmer.
Charlie gets creeped out by the lions. They are kind of creepy looking, especially when the flash from our camera blows their eyes out.

Charlie was so cold this day. It was nine degrees outside. We bought him some warmer clothes after this particular trip.

So, the zoo also has one of the cooler light shows in the city around Christmas time. We went in December, before we left for Utah.

The lights were timed to match some Christmas music. The pictures didn't come out very well, but here is a cool candy cane tree.
This was also a very cold night. Chicagoans won our admiration yet again for their toughness as they calmly wandered around the zoo in sub-zero temperatures.
